If you have tried to connect during the first week of October and found us down, it was due to a change over from our normal ISDN server to a new and faster ADSL connection. We think that all the transition is now complete. We are sorry for your inconvenience. What we thought was a 1 day ordeal turned into many days.

Hello---Wonderful site! I am interested in the James Moore and Cynthia Moore (his wife) that sold a 126 acre tract of land to John L. Pegram on March 2, 1857. My gg-grandfather was James Moore b, 1798 in S.C. m, Cynthia(?) about 1822 in Tennessee. I'd like to get in touch with anyone that may be related to this Cynthia. What was her maiden name? I'm not sure that it is the same couple, but it's worth looking into! It said that they were from Chatham, Tennessee, but by that time my couple was in Fannin County, Texas. I would appreciate any help!! Thanks, Lavern Moore-Osburn

Thank you for your recent email introducing me to your site. You have renewed my interest in my history again. It has been missing for over 15 years when I accidently came across Pegram, TN and talked with Dorothy Roland Pegram. I am Patrick Michael Pegram and father of Harrison Alexander Pegram Son of Maurice Alexander Pegram Jr. (Deceased) Grandson of Maurice Alexander Pegram (Deceased) who moved the family to the Detriot, MI area from Tennesse during the depression. He was married to Lillian McGuire (Deceased). Any link backwords through my line would be appreciated. I will begin to ask more of my relatives to provide me with names and dates. Thankyou Patrick M. I have reached a dead end and I wonder if you can help me. I am looking for Lucy Bell, born about 1776. She married Corbin Noles of Bute Co. NC. They moved to Davidson Co., TN (Nashville) The family story is that she was the daughter of a prominent Virginia planter and was disowned when she married the plantation's overseer (Noles). I'm suspicious of the story. There are so many Bells in NC and Tennessee, I think she could have come from either place. Does anyone have a lead?

I was just recently told of your site, and think it is great. I do have a couple of corrections for you, and one question. First, Mildred Stanfield Coleman married Joseph Boisseau, not William Boisseau. Joseph was William's older brother. Joseph and Mildred had several children: Joseph Williamson Boisseau, William H. Boisseau, George Franklyn Boisseau, Elizabeth C. Boisseau, Amy Ann Goodwyn Boisseau, and another daughter who married Russell Dance of Tennessee. Also, Martha E. F. Boisseau married Robert Hardaway Jones, not his brother. Robert later married Ann E. Boisseau, Martha's sister. Now as to my question, in Dinwiddie County Deed Book 2, p. 255, it lists Julietta F. pegram marrying Joseph Boisseau, but I am not sure who these two people are (this Joseph is not any of the above, but it may be Joseph Goodwyn Boisseau, son of William Boisseau and Athaliah Keziah Goodwyn). Joseph Goodwyn Boisseau married Ann Jane Clarke a few years later, so I don't know if Ann Jane Clarke was Joseph G.'s first wife or his second. Perhaps you might know who Julietta was? Thanks a lot, Andy

Nola, I just read in the August 1999 NC Genealogical Society Journal, p 323,an account of the petition for divorce of Elizabeth Vaughan from her husband Peyton. Four children are mentioned in the petition: Martha Anne, Jno Jeremiah, William Thomas, and James Madison Vaughan. I had had only Martha as a child of this marriage. The legislature did not award the divorce for their failure to notify Peyton that they were going to seek it. Gideon Pegram is mentioned in the application. I can send you a copy if you don't have one. Best regards, Jane

I just want to thank Jane publicly for her great research. Jane demonstrates that we should not take what we find as fact until we have verified the data ourselves. The Thompson data we have posted is based on previously published sources who may have done the best they could do at time. However this does not mean their assumptions or conclusions are always correct. One of the first things we stressed when we started our Pegram research was that all the sources naming Francis Macon as the wife of Daniel were based on pure conjecture without so much as even following the "best possible evidence" rule. We do hope others will share their reseach and point out other errors they find. We will get an updated summary of the Thompson family online as as soon as possible. Thanks again Jane!

Nola, I have just returned from Virginia where I researched the Thompson family. It is clear, unlikely as it may seem, that there were two William Thompsons who came from New England to Virginia in the 1600's. The first William, minister of First Church Braintree, went to VA in 1642 and returned the next year to Braintree where he remained for the rest of his life dying in 1666 and buried there. The second William, probably his son, graduated from Harvard in the Class of 1653, preached in Springfield, MA, went to Connecticut to the Mystic/New London area, was married to Katherine Treat, daughter of Richard, by Governor John Endicott in Boston (Boston public records)19 September 1655. He went to Surry Co., VA, probably in 1662, etc. etc. I have more, but as you can see what you have is incorrect. William of Braintree probably emigrated from England in 1638. He had attended Brasenose College,Oxford, as did Richard Mather. Both got were ordained in England as Anglican priests but got into trouble because of their congregational leanings and left England, Mather before William Thompson (who spelled the name Tompson!) I am getting ready for a Harton family reunion in September and am trying to get as much accurate info as possible to take with me. I do appreciate what you are doing, Thanks, Jane

I have posted a link to Forrest's page of Virginia and NC families under the database index but thought it might help to post it here. If you have an early southeast Va. line or and early Warren Co., NC line, you really should check it out. He has charts on MANY early families. Check it out. Nola, has any one put together all the Granville Grants in that area of Warren County where our forebears lived? I have copies that I got a long time ago in the Secretary of State's office, but I have never bothered to plat them out--or patch them together. It would be a lot of trouble and I thought I'd ask whether it had already been done. Thanks, Jane

Hello, I found this site by accident and noticed a reseacher with the name MABER. My MABER connection is through marriage of my Great Grandmama ARAMINTA OSBORNE (nee Johns of Cornwall) who married SAMUEL MABER of Bath, Somerset England 1875. I have a lot of MABER data and am in contact with another researcher doing the DORSET, England line. If the MABER correspondent is connected to the U.K. I might have something on my files. This is not a sommon surname. Some of the SOMERSET, England MABERs emigrated to Canada and some to the United States. Nice talking to you. JOYCE OSBORNE

Hi Nola, I have a new email address, it is maber@mcia.net I have some information on my dad's (William Ruffin Pegram) and his family. He was a paratrooper and Green Beret. He did many top secret missions. I have a copy of his Army records. If you are interested I can get them put on disk and mail them to you. The marriage between my parents was William's second marriage. His first marriage produced a daughter name Tammy and ended in divorce. Daphne P. Pegram married Don Ross a pediatric neurosurgeon (year unknown). Chauncey M. Pegram Jr. died this year. Please let me know if this helps you at all. Judi

We are now very close to having 10,000 descendants of George Pegram online. However, many of the entries are simply names with nothing more which does not tell us much or communicate anything about our ancestors to future generations. As I surf the web and find additional information or documentation, I try to add it to our database but if it were left to me alone, I do not think I could possibly live long enough to properly document all the people we now show. If you find your ancestor online and have information such as a Bible reference, Census reference or any documentation or source that we can incorporate, please do your own descendants a favor and let us know. Eventually this entire database will be printed and/or placed on CD-Rom discs and donated to libraries around the country for future generations. Please help us make it a reference source that future generation can rely on. Thanks to ALL OF YOU who have done all the work on this site. I MAY have done 10% of the work but that leaves 90% that others have contributed. The best part is that the more we have, the more we get because with each addition, we increase the chance that someone else can connect to their ancestor. We now average 75 NEW people a day who find our site via a search engine because they find a name of a possible relative. Nola

My ancestry goes back to Virginia - specifically Yorktown, or so I have been told. I have also been told that a Pegram who was a schoolteacher taught George Washington the trade of surveying. If my limited knowledge can aid you in your research, I have listed it below. My great grandfather was not the oldest of his brothers. He had headed north to Illinois before the War Between the States for work because his oldest brother had inherited the farm in Virginia as was the Southern custom and he needed to support himself. He married twice, having a number of children with his first wife. She passed away. He later remarried and had one additional son, my grandfather, William Alexander Pegram. My grandfather was born in early 1886 in Illinois. He married Mae Bacon (originally Matilda Bakken). We didn't know she had changed her name from Norwegian until after her death in 1978. She was from Duluth, MN and Racine, WN. My grandfather graduated from the University of Illinois in 1911. He worked for Midwest Piping for many years in management and was transferred to many cities until the late 1930's when they settled in the Los Angeles area. They had lived in Louisville, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Webster Groves, MO and several other cities I don't remember. Their three children who survived past infancy included William Bacon Pegram (my father's older brother), my father, Robert Martin Pegram, and my father's younger brother, Richard Royce Pegram. A daughter died in infancy. My older uncle Bill had ordered a geneological study from somebody in Virginia who discussed George Pegram also. Are you in the same family as the person who did the study? I borrowed the book briefly from my uncle, but have not had time to read it through. I have only browsed it briefly in several sittings. I am Robert Tuttle Pegram. I was born on September 16, 1949. I have one sister, Catherine Louise Pegram, who is younger (born on April 7, 1954) and no other siblings. For whatever it is worth (probably not much), on my maternal grandfather's side, an ancester, William Tuttle donated all of the land for what is now Yale University. It was founded as a Christian seminary I think. Thank God I didn't know about the Yale connection until I was an adult! If I had gone to Yale I might have been brain-washed into becoming a liberal (socialist)! I'm a constitutionalist and believe in state's rights, which is pretty good for a Californian. I guess Southern roots are hard to pull out, even if they are no more recent than 3 generations. I ran for a seat in the House of Representatives from the 36th district of California in the June 1998 Republican primary. The winner, Steve Kuykendall, a liberal, won the primary because of a large Democratic cross-over vote. Out here, the Democrats are the liberals (socialists) and and at least some Republicans (not Kuykendall) are conservatives/ constitutionalists. I know some of the above info. is extraneous to a geneological search, but I thought you might find it interesting. Also, thank you for your work on this website. I am interested in any information you have available. Please let me know you received this email. Thanks.

I am delighted to find this extraordinary and marvelous resource. I am a descendant of Robert Baker Pegram, and would enjoy finding and meeting any kin.

I would be very interested to hear from anyone descended from Richard H. Peagram, who married Jannetta L. Saunders 2 Feb. 1853 in Albemarle. Her father was James Saunders and her mother was Barbara Gutherie Blair. Besides the information in the "Peagrams of Virginia and Their Descendants, 1684-1984" a reference to a gedcom file is given. I am interested in their descendants.

What a wonderful work of research! Congratulations. I am descended from Justin Knott and his wife, Amy Clark. I still have some gaps, especially with the Knott wives etc.so would appreciate it if you could give me an idea of where or who might be able to help me. Justin's grandson, Alfred married Nancy Aslin and their son Henry E. was my great great grandfather. Nita

We received this today. If you are related to Robert Baker Pegram, I am sure he would love to hear from you. His e-mail address is: shawn@fisheries.dnr.state.ga.us I was visiting the Pegram family web site and tried to post the following message, but was unable to submit it. Is this something you can help me with ? I was recently diving on the wreak of the CSS Nashville; the blockade runner captained by Robert Baker Pegram in the early years of the civil war. The wreak is located in Seven Mile bend of the Ogeechee River, Bryan County Georgia. Below the site is Fort MacAllister. The State of Georgia will be expanding its museum there to house artifacts recovered from the CSS Nashville.I would be interested in talking with anyone who might have photos , documents ,stories ect that might be willing to send copies, loan items or have anything to add which might improve the display. Thankyou / Shawn Jordan

Does anyone have the family crest or coat of arms for the Harton family? If so, would you please get in touch with me? Thanks.

Hi, Nola! So glad you have added a query page. Maybe someone can help me find Thomas Harton's (d. 1795) parents.
