He served in the Navy during WWI. He later became a dentist and made his home in Roanoke, Virginia.

His obituary was published in the Richmond Times Dispatch on October 9, 1945 and names survivors as his wife, Mrs. Katherine Wooldridge Epps, daughter Miss Frances Epps, son Travis Doyle Epps, mother Mrs. Branch Jones Epps, brother Branch P. Epps of Washington, D.C. and sister, Mrs. Hunter.Watson.

Mr. Gorrell is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Neal Collins of Columbia, S.C., as well as by three nieces.
