3649. Samuel Cecil Pegram (Jacob Yancey , Jacob , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born ^{1, 2} on 29 Dec 1885 in Bath, Beaufort Co., North Carolina. He died in Mar 1966 in Bath, Beaufort Co., North Carolina.

His obituary reads in part:

"Samuel C. Pegram, resident of 109 N. Brown Street, passed away in a Raleigh hospital early Saturday morning. He had been in failing health for about two years. Mr. Pegram, son of the late Rev. Jacob R. and Willie Mason Pegram, was born at Mackeys, North Carolina Dec. 29, 1885. He was married to the former Ada Mayo of Campbell's Creek who survives. They spent most of their married life in Washington and he was associated with the First National Bank for several years and later with Von Eberstein and Pegram Co. until he retired several years ago.

Mr. Pegram was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Men's Bible class of the church, Orr Lodge, No. 104 A.F. & A.M., Washington York Rite Masonic bodies and Susan Temple Nobels of the Mystic Shrine. Surviving with his wife are one son, Samuel C. Pegram, Jr., of Richmond, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy P. Clark of Raleigh and Mrs. Eunice P. Griffen of Rocky Mount; one brother Chancey Pegram of Thomasville, and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."

Samuel married Ada Mayo about 1911. Ada was born ¹ in 1891 in North Carolina.

3650. Chauncey M. Pegram (Jacob Yancey , Jacob , John , George , Daniel , Daniel , George ) was born ^{1, 2} on 30 Aug 1890. He died on 10 Apr 1968 in Thomasville, Davidson Co., North Carolina.

His obituary published 2 days after his death reads:

Funeral services for the Rev. Chauncey Pegram, native of Bath and former pastor of the Burlington Baptist Church, Will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Thomasville A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church here at 4 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Kelly Wilson, Pastor. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mr. Pegram died early Thursday in Alamance Hospital in Burlington. Surviving are his wife Ida formerly Ida Shavender of Pantego; three sons and one daughter. (From WDN - 12 April 1968)

Chauncey married Ida Shavender daughter of John B Shavender and Gertrude Weston about 1915. Ida was born ¹ about 1895. She died ² on 31 Jan 1969 in Alamance Co., North Carolina.

Her obituary published Jan. 31, 1969 in Washington Daily News in Washington, Beaufort Co., N C reads:

Mrs. Ida Shavender Pegram, age 74, of Burlington and formerly of Beaufort County died Wednesday in the Thomasville General hospital. Mrs. Pegram was the daughter of the late John B. and Gertrude Weston Shavender and widow of Rev. Chauncey M. Pegram who died in 1968.

Surviving included one daughter, Mrs. Daphne P. Ross of Burlington; three sons, John J. Pegram of Garner, Chauncey M. Pegram. Jr. of High Point, William Ruffin Pegram of Thailand; one sister, Mrs. Louise Shavender Ricks of Pantego;10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the Front Street United Methodist Church in Burlington by the Rev. M. W. Lawrence. A second service will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Washington at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. M. W. Lawrence with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The 1920 census for the family includes Gracie, age 18, who is identified as a daughter-in-law but there is no indication who she has married.

John married Nannie Sue Vernon ¹ about 1892. Nannie was born ² in 1873 in North Carolina. She died on 6 Sep 1928 in Forsyth Co., North Carolina.

There are 4 young children including Zeb and twins, boy and girl, born about 1904 and a son born 1909. We are unable to read the names of the 3 younger children.

In 1930 Felix is shown as a widow. Ollie and Dennis are still living in the home.

Family records show he was born Felix E. but he appears later as Phelix and then Phil E. on West Virginia census records.

Felix married Eliza J. Mahoney daughter of Patrick Peter Mahoney and Mary Cochran on 29 Dec 1881 in Fayette Co., West Virginia. Eliza was born ¹ on 20 Apr 1865 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., Virginia. She died on 22 Jul 1917 in Fayette Co., West Virginia.

Her parents were from Ireland.

Emily married Joseph Cephus (Josephus) King on 19 May 1887 in Bland Co., Virginia. Joseph was born ^{1, 2, 3} on 19 Aug 1857 in Virginia. He died ⁴ on 6 May 1929. He was buried in Goshen Methodist Church Cemetery.

According to a descendant, Josephus ("Joe") King was a farmer with a full red beard and very blue eyes. The two of them had 13 children (5 boys, 8 girls) and owned much of the Long Spur section of Bland Co., Virginia. All of the boys were over 6' tall but only one of the 13 children had red hair like Joe.

Ellen married George Lee Tickle ¹ son of Jackson Nye Tickle and Mary A. "Polly" Waggoner on 16 Jan 1890 in Bland Co., Virginia. George was born ² on 29 Apr 1869 in Bland Co., Virginia. He died on 11 Mar 1938 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, Tennessee.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 10 years. They have had 8 children with 7 living.

The 1900 Census shows the couple have been married for 10 years. They have had 4 children, all living in the home.

In 1920 he is listed as a widow, living in Valley Township, Washington Co., Arkansas. We find an ad he placed in the Fayetteville Democrat, Fayetteville, Arkansas on July 8, 1920 where H. N. Pegram is seeking to buy 200 blackberry plants.

At various time from 1917 to 1920, all the sons of Howard Newton Pegram are shown as being called up by the draft for WWI.

Howard married (1) Frances Melinda Cameron about 1890. Frances was born ^{1, 2} on 31 Dec 1871 in Webster Co., Missouri. She died ³ on 19 Jul 1918 in Washington Co., Arkansas. She was buried in McDonald Cemetery, Washington Co., Arkansas.
