Her obituary reads in part: Mrs Martha Lucas Gibbs McKinney, 95 died Sunday morning, April 1, 1947, at the home of a son Morgan Clifton McKinney, in Engelhard, Hyde Co., North Carolina, and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Engelhard Christian Church, with burial following in the Fulford Cemetery, Hyde Co., North Carolina. Surviving are three sons, Calvin B McKinney of Washington, North Carolina; Ellis L McKinney of South Norfolk, Virginia, and Morgan C McKinney of Engelhard. Hyde Co., North Carolina; a daughter, Mrs Ina McKinney Gibbs of Portsmouth, Virginia, a brother. George Gibbs, of Fentress, Virginia.

Martha married Robert Clifton McKinney 1 son of William Benjamin McKinney and Charlotte Austin on 3 Dec 1874 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. Robert was born 2, 3, 4 on 18 Oct 1856 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. He died 5 on 5 Nov 1921 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. He was buried in Nov 1921 in Fulford Cemetery, Hyde Co., North Carolina.

WILL OF ROBERT CLIFTON MCKINNEY HYDE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA

OCTOBER 29, 1921

In the name of God, Amen,

I Robert C. McKinney of Hyde Co. and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs, and directing how the estate with which it has pleased God to bless me shall be disposed of after my decease, do make publish and declare this my Last Will and Testament: And as to my worldly estate and the property real, personal, and mixed of which I die seized and possessed, or in anywise entitled at the time of my deceased. I de-devise bequeath and dispose of in the manner and form Following viz.

I give and devise to my daughter Ina V. McKinney Gibbs the tract of land situated on the South side of the public road leading from Fairfield to Engelhard in Fairfield Township, Hyde Co., NC bounded as follows to wit beginning at Zebulon Bired Watson's leading ditch on the South side of said road at the North East corner of Thomas M Armstrong's land, thence running an Easterly coarse with said public road to the West line of the land which Labin Ballance purchased of C. D. Spencer. Thence with said Labin Ballance West line a Southerly course to the Lake (Mattamuskeet) (or the lands owned by Lake Drainage Co.) thence with the North line of said Lake Drainage Co's line a Westerly course to Z. B. Watson said leading ditch, thence with said leading ditch to the other said public road and beginning, containing (14) Fourteen acres more or less the said tract of land being same which I purchased of Walter Armstrong and a tract which I purchased of Closs Gibbs, and all buildings and improvement s thereon.

2nd: I give and devise to my beloved wife Martha Lucas (Patsy) Gibbs McKinney for and during her life, all of the remainder of my real estate together with all buildings and other minor improvements thereon also all of my personal property of every kind, with the understanding and provision that she is to pay the balance due on the lot at Engelhard which I purchased of George C McKinney & wife Eliza McKinney, also all other lawful and just debts out of personal property and rents, which I may owe.

3rd: I give and bequeath to my son Ellis L. McKinney after the death of his mother Oatsy McKinney, the place or tract of land whereon I now live together with buildings and other improvements thereon, the said tract of land being the same which I purchased of T. H. B Gibbs and wife M. E. Gibbs, as described In a deed dated September 8, 1899 and recorded in the Office of Register of Deeds for Hyde Co., North Carolina August 8, 1900 in Book 24 of Deeds on page 523, situated on North side of public road leading from Fairfield to Engelhard in Fairfield Township bounded as follows to wit: on the West by the lands of Labin Ballance, on the East by the lands of E. B. Jarvis on the South by public road leading from Fairfield to Engelhard North Carolina containing (22) Twenty two acres more or less.

4th I give and bequeath to my son Calvin B. McKinney and Morgan Clifton McKinney after their mother (Patsy McKinney) death the tract of land which I purchased of Walter Jones, T.J. Mann, and W. L. Patrick which is known as part of the Shanklin farm, situated on the Northside of public road leaving from Fairfield to Engelhard, North Carolina on Lake Landing Township, Hyde Co., North Carolina. Bounded as follows to wit: On the West by the lands of E. B. Jarvis on the South by said public road, and on the East by Madison Ballance land. containing (471 /4) Forty Seven and a quarter acres more or less.

I give and bequeath to my sons, Calvin B McKinney and Morgan Clifton McKinney also the house and lot which I purchased of my brother George C. McKinney and wife Eliza in the village of Engelhard Lake Landing Township, Hyde Co., North Carolina. Situated on the public roads leading from Engelhard North Carolina to Wapopin bounded on the North by the lands of the heirs of J. V. Swindell deceased, on the West by said public road on the South by the lands of Closs Gibbs and on the East by lands of W. C. Davis containing (3/4) Three quarters of an acre more or less. Her obituary reads in part:

Mrs Jennie Sewell of Engelhard, Hyde Co., North Carolina, age 76, passed away on Friday, October 19, 1934 at the home of her daughter, Catherine Sewell McKinney. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church the following Saturday at 3:00 PM. She was the wife of the late Gibbon Sewell and had always lived in this section of the county. She is survived by the following children: Catherine Sewell McKinney of Engelhard, Mrs Mayo of Creswell, George Sewell and Claude Sewell of Swan Quarter.

The 1900 Census gives her birthdate as May 1856.

Agnes married 1 Gibbons G Sewell son of Elisha Sewell and Sallie Ann Swindell about 1880 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. Gibbons was born 2 on 20 Jan 1860 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. He died 3 on 3 Feb 1916 in Hyde Co., North Carolina. He was buried in St. George Episcopal Church Cemetery, Hyde Co., North Carolina.

The 1900 Census gives his birthdate as June 1856.
